Motivation Monday: Tips from the Book

I'm going over the first four chapters from Change your Brain Change your Body for tonight's book club.  I thought it would be timely to share some ideas from the book.

To improve willpower, you have to practice it (pg 46)

One prescription does not work for everyone (pg 9)

I am what I ate....and I am frightened. -Bill Cosby (pg 53)

Motivation Monday: Lie To Yourself

All I can say is keep thinking positively. Even if you are lying to yourself at first...eventually you’ll start believing. After all, isn’t that how the negative thoughts start...lies we tell ourselves and eventually believe?

Am I Making Myself Clear?

Gosh I hope I am!  Seriously, more and more coming out on the "sugar-free" community.  Really, the article is short please take the time to read it.  Knowledge is power.

Check out this article

A snip-it that stuck out to me:

"A 2008 test study on rats found calorie-free artificial sweeteners may not be much better. Artificial sweeteners, like the ones found in diet soda, were found to break the physiological connection between sweet tastes and calories, driving rats to overeat."

Motivation Monday: Fun Facts!

I'm reading Jillian Michael's Master Your Metabolism.  There's so many great nuggets of information and two that I really want to share this Monday to get us all thinking.

1. For each can of diet soft drink consumed each day, a person's risk of obesity goes up to 41%.

2. After age 20, basal metabolic rate drops about 2% per decade, after 40, it slows down 5% per decade.

Race 6...Check!

This morning I ran in the Maryville Marathon...but the 10K distance with my brother, Troy and husband, Aaron.  There would a couple of memorable moments with this race.  First, I've never done a race with Troy.  Although I'm not sure I could count it as I ran it with him...we finished 10 minutes later.  Goodness he's a speedy one!  Next, it was the first race I've ever done where I've been at the start line and hear thunder.  The next thing I know we're off running (luckily it was the last thunder of the storm).  And lastly, it was a lot of fun to run with Aaron.  I might have held him back a bit but he won't admit to it.  My love language is quality time so this definitely served as some of that.  Aaron's working on getting into running more so maybe we'll be doing more races together in the near future.  It wasn't my best 10K time but I'll take it...I have my excuses as to why it wasn't my best time...don't we all?!

Motivation Monday: Dump the Diet

I've said it a million times and I'll say it again.  Diet soda is too good to be true.  If there's one thing I've been reading over and over lately it's all about artificial sweeteners.  And then if it's something I've been experiencing with clients it's the amazing positive effects they have after getting rid of that last diet drink per day.  And I know, it's a hard thing to do but look at it this way: it's like drinking chemicals.  Everything in a diet drink was made and created in a lab.  How can that be anything but bad for your body?

Dump the diet...dump it now.
